Pablo Lopez Luz. Terrazo

Views from the Expanded City
22.06 - 24.07.2016

For the Summer of Photography, Pablo Lopez Luz presents a series of aerial views of Mexico City entitled “Terrazo”. In the words of the artist: “This series was born from the need
to portray the consequences of the erratic urban spread upon the landscape, as well as the emergence of a new human- altered landscape, and the social, political and environmental significance of this transformation. In a megalopolis like Mexico City, constantly threatened by incessant population growth and a complete lack of infrastructure, the fragility of the relationship between man and his living space becomes increasingly apparent. The once unpopulated valley of Mexico City has violently morphed into an immense urbanized landscape consumed by an urban society that has not found the industrialized and economic promise it was seeking.”
