In the series Viewpoint - Point Of View Michiel De Cleene shows images of tourist viewpoints. These panoramic points are a multiple intervention in the landscape: in addition to an architectural intervention these structures also condition the view at the landscape - an approach to the environment that parallels with documentary landscape photography. These signposted locations make the tourist feel at ease: from this angle the scenery is at its best. A field of view and a framework are imposed: the restriction is comfort.

The series Barriers - European Neighbouring, a study of the evolving function of physical borders in Europe, was the ground for this work. Four images from this series are shown alongside the new work.
