Portraits from an art collection
One of the characteristics of Outsider Art lies in the close connection between the artist and his work, where artistic and social aspects become entangled. It’s with this in mind that the idea of a publication and an exhibition, presenting photos of some of the artists of the Art & Marges Museum, was born - a project that has been in the works for a long time.
So when we were contacted by Gaël Turine, a renowned photographer who was awarded the “Prix du Trèfle d’Or” from the Belgian Foundation for Vocation for his project entitled “Voodoo”, we immediately accepted his proposal.
He visited many places in Belgium and met about twenty artists in their creative environments. Some of these artists are working alone, others within an institutional setting. Gaël Turine approached each one of them with tact, without any voyeurism or paternalism, in tune with the philosophy of the Art & Marges Museum. His inquisitiveness towards these artists and their work proceeds from a trust-inducing look. The exhibition will display photographic portraits of the artists, opposite their works, and spread over both floors of the Museum. Photos by Gaël Turine from the Voodoo series will also be presented at the Centrale Electrique in an exhibition entitled “Mindscapes”.
