Seven avant-garde films about the landscape

01/08/2012 to 29/08/2012

Seven formally different avant-garde films in which the landscape is mingled with fiction. From the mirages in Werner Herzog’s Fata Morgana to the dust, stones, flowers and trees of the Australian aborigines in Second Journey by Arthur and Corinne Cantrill. From Werner Nekes’ Makimono with its fluctuating photographic parameters to La région centrale by Michael Snow, with a camera installation that mechanically scans the mountain landscape. From Marguerite Duras’ travelogue Le camion in northern France to Greenaway’s A walk through H, a surreal game with hand-painted maps and ornithology. And finally Las hurdes, the savage documentary parody by Luis Buñuel, who is still capable of wrong-footing viewers.
